Thing to note when it comes to your bill:

Extreme Weather: When temperatures dip significantly in the winter or soar in the summer, people tend to use more energy to maintain comfort. For cold weather, heating systems (natural gas or electric) consume more energy. In the summer, air conditioning units are often the main culprit for higher electricity consumption. It’s especially noticeable in months like January for cold weather and peak summer months for hot weather.

Distribution Charge Increases: Energy distributors charge fees based on how much energy you use. So, as your consumption rises, so do the distribution charges. Additionally, for natural gas bills, if you use more gas, you'll see an increase in the Federal Carbon Tax since it's charged based on consumption.

Increased Energy Consumption: As temperatures drop, homes require more energy to heat, especially if the weather is colder than usual. More gas is burned to heat the home, and more electricity is consumed for fans, lighting, or space heaters.

Changes in Home Environment: If you've made changes in your home like installing new appliances or running the furnace/AC more frequently, it can significantly impact your energy consumption. Other factors like having more people in the house, not maintaining the furnace or HVAC system, or even leaving lights on for longer periods will also add up.
